What is Ortho Evra?
Ortho
Evra is the first birth control patch to reach the US market. It
was marketed as an easier alternative to birth control pills. You
would switch the patch just once a week, instead of remember in a
pill everyday.
Is the risk higher for Ortho Evra than a normal birth
control pill?
Yes,
Ortho Evra contains 60% more estrogen than a normal birth control
pill. The increased level of estrogen makes women more prone to
clotting. Ortho Evra did not warn consumers about these risks,
which they knew about, until well after the media had exposed them.
How do I know if I have an Ortho Evra case?

What about the FDA?
The
FDA has not forced Ortho Evra to be recalled form the market.
However, they have issued two announcements (November 2005 (label
update) and February 2006 (FDA Report) stating that the preliminary
findings do show there is a link between Ortho Evra and blood clots.
Should I continue to use Ortho Evra?
That
is a decision which you and your medical provider should discuss.
Only a medical provider can tell you if Ortho Evra is not right for
you.
