Senate report links Avandia® to heart attacks and deaths

In 2007 the prestigious Cleveland Clinic released a study that found Avandia use increased the possibility of heart attack by 43 percent.

The diabetes drugs Avandia®, Avandamet® and Avandaryl® are linked to an increased risk of serious side effects that may lead to:

  • Stroke
  • Heart Attack
  • Congestive Heart Failure
  • Sudden Death

FDA imposes restrictions on Avandia® prescriptions

In late 2010 the Food & Drug Administration (FDA) imposed tough restrictions on Avandia, citing its cardiac side effects. As a result, patients in the United States are only to be prescribed Avandia if they and their doctors attest that they have tried every other available diabetes drug, and that the patient has been informed of Avandia's cardiac side effects.
